Nehru Memorial College was founded in 1967 as an autonomous, aided institution by Late Thiru. Mookka Pillai, who conceived a noble idea of providing education to the children of the poor section of rural society and implemented it in 1942 by establishing a middle school in the rural village of Puthanampatti. In 1948, the institution was converted to a high school. The College offers a variety of UG and PG programs, as well as fosters research and innovation in the teaching-learning process in a variety of disciplines, with a particular emphasis on computer science and instrumentation. The mission of the college is to provide appropriate knowledge to rural students through the use of computers and other equipment, as well as to ensure social justice for rural people through various academic and non-academic activities such as cultural and literary competitions, NSS, NCC, YRC, Gender Club, and so on.
